Finding Beauty in the Bitter Cold
The last few weeks in the Columbia River Gorge have been challenging to say the least. The snow and ice have thrown our daily routines into disarray – but for local photographer Vince Ready, the cold weather also creates a rare opportunity to capture the scenic beauty of the nearby waterfalls in winter.
These are iconic and familiar spots to local residents, but they take on an entirely different personality when the mercury drops and icicles begin to form. During prolonged cold spells, these waterfalls become ice-encrusted with the surrounding surfaces coated in a sparkling glaze.
Getting these shots isn’t always easy. Trails can be treacherous (micro-spikes are a must!) and the freezing mist coming off the falls tends to coat the camera (and the photographer!) in ice.
Lasting Light Photography offers a diverse catalog of landscape images that are available for commercial licensing and as fine art prints. Through the end of January, we are offering 25% off all photographic and fine art prints, so if you’re looking to bring a beautiful gorge scene into your home or business, get in touch with Vince by email or phone at (541) 716-4749.
